Wind, mahogany and aluminium: Edoardo Miola's Concept Models for Nautor's Swan | 1st of October 2012 |
On the occasion of the 52nd Genoa International Boat Show, the lifestyle store Via Garibaldi 12 presents an original show dedicated to the Concept Models by the Genoese architect Edoardo Miola for Nautor’s Swan, the Finnish boatyard whose sailing boats marked a stylistic turning point in terms of nautical design. Against the setting of the Renaissance palazzo once owned by Baldassarre Lomellino, six mahogany and aluminium models on a 1:30 scale that drew their inspiration from the aeronautical prototypes for the wind tunnel of the nineteen-thirties will be exhibited. Each one of them is the result of 150 to 200 hours of work that starts out by drafting a three-dimensional drawing, leading up to long hours of milling and finishing of the wood. The basic lines, the formal correctness and the decision to show clean-cut volumes made of two pure materials, wood and aluminium, were originated by a concept of a model that is normally found in industrial and automobile design. The exhibition, based on an idea by Lorenzo Bagnara, includes the original panels, perforated to create a sea-like effect, designed by Jean Nouvel for the “Blu” pavilion of the Genoa Fair. The exhibition will be open from Tuesday to Saturday, from October 4th to 27th, from 10.00 to 14.00 and from 15.30 to 19.00. Special opening monday 8th October from 19.00 to 21.30
