PALAZZI DI GENOVA

In 1622 Pietro Paolo Rubens created in Antwerp, at the Giacomo Meurso printing house, the volume Palazzi di Genova,
which proposes to the reader 12 palaces with a body of 72 tables including elevations, plans and sections, drawings by himself "chosen and collected [...] not without effort and expense" during his stays in Genoa between 1604 and 1608 .
In the following years Rubens collected a second group of 67 panels illustrating a further 19 palaces and 4 churches. Instead of forming a second volume, these plates are published together with the first, in a second edition of 139 plates in one large volume.

To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the first edition of the Palazzi di Genova, we are publishing this refined numbered edition edited by Piero Boccardo and introduced by a text that reveals what is known about the history of this unusual seventeenth-century "publishing enterprise" - an act of love by the Flemish master against the Serenissima Republic.
The volume presents all 139 tables illustrating the 31 palaces and the 4 churches faithfully reproduced with continuous color printing and accompanied by descriptive texts.
hardcover volume rewrapped in canvas and paper,
240 pages in 24x28 format,
bi-language edition Italian and English.
