Ruth Gurvich was born in Cordoba, Argentina in 1961. Initially she studied architecture in her homeland, but in 1979 she switched to art, continuing her studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1987 to 1991. In her designs, Ruth Gurvich aims to show the shapes and structures of everyday things the way they are. Her understanding of design is global in scope, but firmly anchored in local tradition. She established a reputation with her three-dimensional works made of paper, which pursue a delicate, wholly distinctive aesthetic. In her designs, she cannily makes the most of the materiality of paper as a working material, it enables her to introduce light, movement and vitality into things.
Inspired by the Far East, Argentinian designer, Ruth Gurvich created her Lightscape designs in collaboration with Nymphenburg. Each piece was first molded in paper and then handcrafted in porcelain. White bisque porcelain with white glazed interior and artfully painted pencil marks.
Established in 1747, Nymphenburg has–through its relentless commitment to craftsmanship and its sustained collaboration with the premier designers and artists of every era–solidified its position as one of the world’s finest creators of porcelain, serving generations of royalty and having its porcelain immortalized in museums and design collections
