Designed by Philippe Starck for Kartell, the Adam Wood Shelving system forms part of a collection of furniture produced using 'Smart Wood'.
The Adam Wood bookshelf / shelving system uses an intelligent combination of steel struts onto which 'smart wood' shelves are mounted and can be positioned to a desired height. Each shelf is created with a mould which has been designed to provide curvature to the edge of the shelf. In this way the beauty of the wood is enhanced - bent horizontally and vertically in three dimensions to create distinct welcoming curves, which become the striking feature of this piece of furniture. This practice is part of the 'Kartell Loves The Planet' philosophy - aimed at enhancing good practices for sustainability throughout the production process in the use of raw materials, coupled with low environmental impact.
