The simple design, easy reading and the famous red second hand have made the Mondaine collection a worldwide success, thanks to the essentiality and simplicity of the elements that distinguish it.
The official clock of the Swiss railways.
In 1944, Hans Hilfiker, an engineer employed by the Swiss Railways, was asked to create the clock that would mark the time in all Swiss stations. The result was a clock with a simple design, without drawings: the minutes, marked by black lines on a white background and the hour and minute hands also black. On this black and white background, the red second hand stands out, nicknamed the "rote Kelle" (red paddle), for the small red disc at its end, like the paddle still used today by the stationmasters of the Swiss Railways.
In 1986, the first Mondaine wristwatch was created, which today boasts a large collection of strictly Swiss Made watches with automatic or quartz movements.
The Mondaine SBB collection offers a choice of wrist and table timepieces to satisfy any need, always respecting the ancient watchmaking tradition of punctuality and simple and intuitive design. After more than 70 years since its creation, Mondaine is today considered one of the "10 Classic Swiss Watch Design" and has become the watch loved by designers and architects around the world, exhibited at the MOMA in New York and sold in more than 40 countries worldwide.
